Awhile back I posted to my instagram and facebook page that I had a free Saturday and invited any teen photographers to meet up and work on our skills together! I’d planned to get a few models for everyone to be able to practice what they wanted to work on….posing, lighting or just working with their camera. I see a lot of teen photographers on instagram and I’m always excited to get out and work on a new skill so I thought it would be a good match. Especially after the winter we’ve had here in Portland. I need to shake the dust off and get ready for a busy summer of senior pictures in Portland!
I had a couple photographers that wanted to come but at the last minute things came up so I decided to put out a model call anyway and just have a fun low pressure shoot for me. I had a huge response asking to model and when the first girl I wanted fell through, I chose Rebecca. She used to go to Southridge but now is at PCC for her junior year – which can I just say is so cool that you are that smart! Go Rebecca!
Her mom came along for the shoot, which I love, I’m never sure what parents think when I have these model calls. I’m sure they are worried I’m some crazy which I’m totally not….well not that kind of crazy. I’m more the work my butt off, try to be and do everything type A crazy. lol They wanted to know what I’d use the images for and I knew I’d post a few to instagram to fill my feed for a week or so because I haven’t had a full portrait shoot since last fall. I’ve had family minis, a fall mini with my senior squad, a winter styled shoot and the bff minis a few weeks ago but not a full portrait session. I’m sure it seems from the outside like I get to do photography all the time but really the thing I want to do the most, I get to do the least.
The Next Shootout
The next shootout is in June and I’ve already gotten emails from teen photographers and teen models that want to come! It’s free, open to anyone that wants an hour or so to work on their skill and maybe ask a working pro some q’s. I don’t have anything planned other than a time and place so its really open to whatever people want to learn.
Sound fun? I hope you’ll come! Shoot me an email at email@example.com to let me know you’re coming. I’ll send the details for time, place, and I’ll want to know what kind of photography you’re interested in. Super low key, just need to know how many photographers are coming so we can try to have enough models if you’re wanting to work on portraits.
Here’s some shots from my lil session with Rebecca. I was working on hitting my focus while backlighting, capturing movement and did a bit of video but that is probably going in a lil promo for the Class of 2018 to come later. I’m super happy with how the images turned out. Rebecca was fun to work with and I hope she’ll come next time as a photog! hee hee
