Today’s blog post is all about the main event…YOUR PHOTOSHOOT! Woohoo! I know this is what all the Seniors want to know about so lets get into the fun stuff!
We’ve had the consultation, you’re feeling prepared for your photoshoot and now its the big day! Yay! How will you know what to do, what will happen when…so many questions. My goal is to have you feel confident and ready with maybe just a few of those excited butterflies in your stomach for the day of your senior photos.
Obviously we’ll have a predetermined time and location. You’ll have a parent and maybe even a best friend along to help carry your outfits and accessories. Plus its always fun to have a friend there and sometimes I need someone to hold the reflector and friends are great for that!
Before you show up to your photoshoot, I’m already there. I’ve scouted the location a week in advance to look for good backdrops and light. The day of I like to arrive early, walk around and remind myself of the spots I want to hit. I like to be prepared first and then get creative.
Are you having makeup done by my fab makeup artist to start? Quick tip – if you are having your makeup done, don’t arrive in an outfit for your shoot. Wear a button down shirt or something you can easily remove without smearing your makeup or messing up your clothes. Speaking of changing clothes…have you thought of that? Cause I have! New this year I have a changing tent. How awesome is that? It’s 6ft tall and pops up anywhere you need to change. No more hoping for a public bathroom or hiding behind a blanket. Yay!
During the shoot we’ll play some music, try some easy poses, some fun poses and some awkward poses. Trust me, if it feels awkward it looks fantastic! In no time you’ll be free styling in front of the camera. Ok, I hear you saying “No way, I’ll need constant coaching!” I doubt you will but if you do that’s what I’m there for! This is why you hire a professional photographer that specializes in senior pictures.
As you’re researching senior photographers you’ve probably noticed that several have time limits on their photoshoots. I’ve found that depending on the person and location, we might need more or less than an hour. I’m not going to watch the clock and call it because its been 61 minutes. I’m more focused on getting your gorgeous images. We’ll discuss how we’re feeling, review the images on the back of the camera and ensure we both feel we’ve gotten a variety of great shots both for your yearbook and for wall portraits.
Once we wrap up, if we don’t already have your Gallery Reveal and Ordering Session set up we’ll talk dates. This is why I tell seniors to plan ahead! Yearbook deadlines come up super fast in the Fall! I can’t just edit one or two images from a session for the yearbook, you really need to see them all before you decide which will go in the book. I mean this is a book you will keep forever, that all of your classmates will have forever and I want you to love that image! I know I still love mine!
Come back next week to learn all about what happens after the fun! The Gallery Reveal and Ordering Session! Woohoo!
