A Senior Year Like No Other
It’s summer and you’re enjoying the sun but your Senior Year is coming. I know this Fall isn’t going to look like how you imagined. Whether you are doing online distance learning or half days, your senior year will be different than any other year. But even though you may not be at school, I’m guessing schools will have the same deadlines for yearbook picture submissions. In the Portland area, the yearbook deadline is what will determine when you need to have your senior pictures taken. Some schools are early like September and some are due in February of 2021. Check out the list below for your school’s approximate deadline. Specific dates usually come out the first week of school but it’s good to plan ahead now. The closer we get to the start of the school year, the faster my calendar fills up.
Feel Like a Senior
We can’t control what is happening in the world or what is going to happen for your senior year of high school. But you CAN have an amazing senior portrait experience! After talking with some of my Class of 2020 seniors at their grad portraits, they said they were so sad about how the year ended but the one thing they are so happy they did was senior portraits. These portraits are a rite of passage and having them taken can create that feeling that you finally are a senior in high school.
When Should You Book?
My best advice is to book your senior pictures no less than one month before your yearbook deadline. We need to have time for editing and time for you to decide which image is perfect for your yearbook. It’s good to have that time in case we need to reschedule due to the weather. If you don’t have a month, the minimum time we need would be two weeks.
Let’s say you go to Tigard High School. The deadline is early November, so when should Tigard High School seniors have their pictures taken? No later than the first weekend of October. Know why? Cause October is when our lovely liquid sunshine starts coming back. Plus Fall is the busiest time of year for photographers = longer turnaround time for your gallery. What if you got rained out that first weekend? (That happens!) Then you’ve gotta reschedule for the next weekend, plus add in a week minimum of editing time for your gallery and then schedule your digital reveal with your family for the next week and you might want a few days to a week to decide on images. Whew! Just in time! And you thought you had a month huh!
“I just need one”
Every year someone asks me, “I just need one photo, can’t you just edit one?” Nope. You will want to see all your images so you can decide which photo will be in your yearbook. I will have a day of Senior Mini Sessions in September for those that just want one great image for the yearbook. The date will be announced soon!
