At the Class of 2020 Senior Squad Welcome Party we brainstormed ideas for their Spring Styled Shoot. Styled Shoots are one of the BIG perks of being part of the Senior Squad.
I thought for certain it was going to be one idea but when we talked about it I could tell the girls were like, eh it’s ok. I keep inspo pictures in a secret pinteret board and showed the girls a few other ideas, plus they had some ideas too!
A week later the girls all voted and I was shocked that it was my last idea! The picture had a large floral headdress of hydrangea draped with some chiffon. I don’t like to copy things but use elements as inspiration and I think we took this and ran with it.
I thought it would be fun for all of us to get together a week in advance, make some flower headdresses together. We could chat, get to know each other better since most of the girls on the Senior Squad go to different schools.
But if you know me, you know I sometimes think I can do more than I actually can. See, I’m crafty, I have lots of craft supplies and I watched a youtube video….so no biggie. Um ya, after one girl burned her fingers with her hot glue gun, we called it off. I emailed a florist that has made flower crowns for me in the past!
Annie at Floral Sunshine PDX is amazing! Let’s just start there cause this woman took $100 of faux flowers from Michaels and turned them into these amazing headdresses!
I could tell when I dropped off the faux flowers that she was thinking these were probably the worst faux flowers she’s seen. We kinda talked about creating 3 different headpieces but the creative was all up to her. And thank goodness for Annie! These headdresses made the shoot.
Makeup was the other focus for this Styled Shoot. I asked the girls if they wanted minimal makeup or abstract makeup and they chose abstract. With that, I knew I wanted Cassidy. Cassidy has been on my Class of 2019 Senior Squad and does makeup for theater at her high school. I had some inspo pics but basically said “have fun with it”. And she did!
The “dresses” are yards of tulle wrapped around or draped over them and white lace table cloths from my wedding tied as skirts. (after the headdresses I was over my budget so I got creative!)
These Styled Shoots are so much planning. Every little detail from hair, makeup, undergarments, lighting, backdrop, posing are pre-determined. And even with all that planning I try to leave myself time and space for getting creative.
I just love how these images turned out. Such a high bar for our Fall Styled Shoot! Speaking of which…if you were to do a Fall Styled Shoot, what would you like to see? We’d love to hear your ideas!
