Are you not sure why we take senior pictures? Have you thought you’d just have your friend take your pic in the back yard and call it good? Or use the student ID pic they take at the start of the school year? Have you thought you just don’t get why everyone is so worked up about them? Then this article is for you!
Senior pictures have been a way to commemorate your time in high school for decades. I like to think of these pictures as a way to capture your teenage years. These are pictures you will have for a lifetime and your future children may even look back on them to see you as a teenager. As a senior portrait photographer, I take this responsibility very seriously because I have the gift of time. I look back on my senior pictures and love that I can still see myself in the photos but wow I can’t believe I was that young! If I just had my parents snap a pic or two I’m sure I wouldn’t have the same reaction to the images. (Plus there is no way they would have been as good!) I’m sure some of you are still like “Whats the big deal? I take pictures with our phones all the time!” It’s totally true, this generation is the most photographed generation which is why your senior pictures are so important. These shouldn’t be another cell phone snap. These photos should be special.
In addition to capturing your youth, senior pictures can capture:
My top goal for every senior picture photoshoot is to capture your personality. This is a tough feat if you are nervous and unsure of yourself. I tend to be on the nervous side with new people so I totally get it. It’s just another reason I love meeting you before you even sign the contract. That way we can get those nerves out of the way. Plus we can talk about all the fun parts and any questions you might have. Even if you don’t choose me I hope you’ll ask your photographer to meet up before the shoot. Just takes half an hour and makes all the difference!
In that simple conversation, we’ll figure out what else you want to be featured in your images. Are you involved in sports, or a superfan for a team or want to feature your love of books? We can come up with a way to show this in a few shots. Are you a country girl, a city girl or a mix of both? We’ll come up with the perfect location that has all the features you want. Thinking about tall wheat grass or pictures by the river? I’ve taken senior pictures all over the Portland area and probably already know the perfect spot for you. Customizing sessions to suit you is what I love to do!
If you aren’t sure what you want, we’ll talk about what you like to do. Where do you hang out with friends? What kind of clothes do you wear? These broad strokes can help us find the right fit for you. I’m currently doing consultations with seniors and parents on Mondays at noon or weekends at 10am. I’ve only got 5 dates left for all of Class of 2018 so contact me soon to grab a date. Do you know when your yearbook image is due? Read this post to find out when your yearbook image is due and some tips for how to plan ahead. I don’t want you to miss out, you are only this young once. I want you to have the best senior picture experience and have images that you’ll love for a lifetime.
(Ok that all sounds super cheese right? But it’s all true, I’m two decades outside of high school now and can’t even tell you how important it is to have prints of yourself at this age. Next week I’ll post about the cost of senior pictures because I know that is totally a concern for most teens and parents.)
