Last Sunday evening freed up when my Senior Squad member Angelina let me know her braces are coming off at the end of August. So we rescheduled her senior pics for after that momentous occasion! I haven’t had a shoot since June so I was itching to practice some new techniques. This is the #1 thing I love about photography….there’s always something new to learn! Typically I shoot posed portraits but I’ve noticed there’s a shift happening in senior photography towards capturing movement and video. I’d never really practiced either so having an open evening I decided to have a model call to try to learn some new skills!
Sharona won the random draw and I couldn’t have been happier! She’s totally adorable and such a nice girl. She’s a senior at Tualatin High School. I let her know my focus for the model call and she was fantastic to work with! I fumbled with my camera, working through my settings, adjusting for exposure, focus, etc. She was so patient and had some awesome ideas! The blowing grass…that was all Sharona! Love it!
Capturing movement is something I’ve wanted to practice more. And video…well I’ve never really tried. I have a Nikon dslr camera and they aren’t known for great video. My husband even recommended I just use my cellphone to capture video. But I just can’t see whipping out my cell during a session…unless its for snapchat of course! lol
So great to spend a full hour focused on one thing that I can add into my senior portrait sessions! I’ve not mastered these of course but I feel wayyyy more confident and I know I’ll be doing this for the Class of 2017 seniors.
Here’s the full video from Sharona’s model call! Enjoy! And hit that HD button to see it in the best resolution.
